We can do much to promote the health and welfare of horses by understanding their behavioral expressions. Come learn more about equine behavior, the research on equine behaviors associated with positive and negative emotional experiences, and how to support the psychological well-being of horses working in AAI.  

Bio

Dr. Katy Schroeder is an assistant professor in the Department of Animal and Food Sciences at Texas Tech University and a professional counselor. She holds certifications as a National Certified Counselor (NCC), PATH, International Equine Specialist in Mental Health and Learning (ESMHL), and PATH International Therapeutic Riding Instructor (CTRI). Her research broadly explores human-animal interactions with a special focus on human-equine relationships. Katy has been involved in the horse industry for over 20 years through her background in competitive Three-Day Eventing and her work in Equine-Assisted Services. She currently directs the Human-Equine Interactions Research Lab and oversees the Equine-Assisted Counseling and Wellness programs at the Texas Tech Therapeutic Riding Center in Lubbock, TX.
